Alyson Caldari PsyD
I am an experienced clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, and adults. Working with the entire life span, I have developed a keen understanding of the family systems and the intergenerational impact of trauma on individuals and families. In working with children and adolescents, I know that incorporating parents into the therapy is essential, as they are agents of change for their children. Working with the entire family reduces conflict and creates a stronger family unit. In my work with adults, I help people explore and understand how their past experiences from childhood impact them in the present, allowing them to live less encumbered lives.
My approach is grounded in a relational perspective, where I work to establish a safe and collaborative space in order to promote insight, curiosity, and personal growth. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy, and I have experience using different treatment approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic psychotherapy. As a trauma therapist, I am also trained in Trauma- Focused CBT and trauma narrative work. As a clinician I emphasize and value the therapeutic relationship, and work to meet each person where they are. My goal in working with people, is to work together to help bring meaning and understanding to the ways in which we respond and react to the world around us.
I have a particular interest in working with individual's who want to understand their relationship with their bodies and their sexuality. I believe that intimacy and sexuality are largely shaped by our experiences in the past and impact the way we express ourselves sexually in the present.
I received my doctorate in clinical psychology for Long Island University-Post in Long Island, NY and completed my clinical internship at JCCA in Brooklyn NY.
I am a native New Yorker and love spending time with family and friends enjoying good food and great conversation. I love to travel and experience new cultures and parts of the world.
